REQUIREMENTS

This applet will run on most modern web browsers, with Java JDK 1.41 enabled.
While a fast connection is desirable, a dial-up will also give satisfactory results, as the applet is 150 Kbytes, and each part class file is at most 30 Kbytes.
A fast computer will have a more noticeable effect on the speed of this applet than a fast connection.
The Java applet requires quite of bit of memory. For example, in addition to the memory that the browser window uses, the Java applet uses this much memory:
Platform Browser Additional
memory
Windows 2000 Internet Explorer 5.5 18 Mb at first,
about 100 KB for each class opened,
up to 33 MB
Macintosh OS 8.5 Internet Explorer 5.1 12 Mb at first,
about 100 KB for each class opened,
up to 24 MB
Windows 2000 Netscape 4.78 7 Mb at first,
about 200 KB for each class opened,
up to 36 MB

The present revision has been tested on these situations, with these limitations:
Platform Browser Java Image refresh Windows used in 2-D pop-ups
Windows 2000 Internet Explorer 5.5 Sun Java 2 v1.41_01 Incomplete, until you move mouse Shows "Applet window" at bottom
Windows 2000 Internet Explorer 5.5 Microsoft Java VM
JIT enabled.
  Require extra clicks to wake-up.
Shows "Warning: Applet window" at bottom
Windows 2000 Netscape Communicator 4.78 Version included   Blank space below
Windows 2000 Opera 7.21 Version included
(Sun Java 2 v1.31_02)
Incomplete, until you move mouse Shows "Applet window" at bottom
Macintosh OS 8.5 Internet Explorer 5.1 Apple MRJ 2.2
(JDK 1.18)
Require 3 extra clicks to wake up.
Shows "Warning: Applet window" plus extra space at bottom

The present revision is known not to work in these conditions:
Platform Browser Problem
Macintosh OS 8.5 Netscape 4.0 Doesn't open
Macintosh OS 8.5 Netscape 4.8 Opens window, loads, sits there
Macintosh OS 8.5 Netscape 6.0 Pop-up menus are royally F.U.

Please let us know how this applet behaves on other platform/browser/Java combinations.
